Sermon Title: Catching the Anointing
Foundational Scripture
Acts 1:8
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me…”
Introduction
Last week, we discussed understanding the anointing. Today, we move deeper into catching the anointing.
Without the anointing, we are weak. The anointing is the presence of God resting on our lives. It hovers over us, empowers us, and equips us to overcome struggles. The anointing of God brings power, ability, and victory.
Declaration: Before you leave this place, the anointing will rest upon your life in a fresh way.
The Hunger and Pursuit of the Anointing
- To walk in the anointing, we must cultivate hunger (a deep craving for more of God) and pursuit (active steps to catch and carry the anointing).
- The anointing is not cheap—there is a price to pay.
Examples:
- Smith Wigglesworth prayed until the power of God fell, and afterward walked in miraculous healing.
- Catherine Kuhlman said: “Everyone can have what I have, if they are willing to pay the price.” Her ministry was so saturated with the presence of God that people were healed simply when she entered a room.
Declaration: When you enter a space, people will recognize the anointing on you!
But remember: if you pray to receive the anointing, you must also pray to sustain and maintain it.
Why Do We Need the Anointing?
The anointing isn’t for show—it’s for service.
- God has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9).
- Our goal is to hear Him say: “Well done, My good and faithful servant.”
- The anointing equips us to serve and witness for Christ.
Scriptures:
- Acts 1:8 — The Spirit empowers us to witness.
- Luke 4:18 — The Spirit anointed Jesus to preach, heal, and set captives free.
- Zechariah 4:6 — It is not by might or power, but by God’s Spirit.
When the Holy Spirit overshadows you, everything about you changes.
What Happens When the Anointing Comes?
- The blind see.
- The brokenhearted are healed.
- Addictions are broken.
- The oppressed are set free.
- The impossible becomes possible.
➡️ When the Spirit of God comes, ordinary people become extraordinary.
How to Catch the Anointing
- Consider Elisha (1 Kings 19; 2 Kings 2).
- He left his oxen, burned his equipment, and followed Elijah.
- He walked from Gilgal to Jordan—an 8-hour journey—demonstrating spiritual pursuit.
- While other prophets settled for head knowledge, Elisha pressed for more.
- When asked what he wanted, Elisha boldly requested a double portion of Elijah’s anointing.
- He received it because he pursued, paid the price, and stayed close until the mantle fell.
The Cost of the Anointing
- Jesus told the rich man to sell all and follow Him (Mark 10:21–22). The man walked away sorrowful.
- Mark 8:36 — What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?
- The anointing requires sacrifice, hunger, surrender, and obedience.
The Overflow of the Anointing
When the anointing rests on your life:
- You will lay hands on the sick and they will recover.
- You will cast out demons.
- You will walk in supernatural power.
- You will fear no enemy.
The anointing makes you extraordinary, and God wants to release it not just for you, but through you—to touch lives and win souls.
Closing Scripture
Matthew 5:6
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.”
Final Declaration
If you are hungry for more of God, the anointing will flow. By the end of this service, may the anointing rest on your life in such a way that people will see you and know—you have been with Jesus.
