Speaker: Pastor Bossman
Topic: The Secret Place: The Reward of the Secret Place
Scripture: Psalm 91:1 (NKJV)

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

Introduction: The Call to the Secret Place

Psalm 91 is a powerful chapter of divine protection and communion with God.
Many believe Moses wrote this psalm because Psalm 90 is attributed to him, and both share a similar tone and language. Others believe it may have been written by King David.

Whoever the author may be, the message remains powerful — there is a promise for the one who dwells in the Secret Place of the Most High.

This verse opens with “He who dwells” — not visits, not glances at, but dwells — takes up permanent residence in the presence of God.
The promise is clear: those who choose to live in that secret place will live under the shadow, covering, and protection of the Almighty.

Psalm 91:2–16 lists the blessings and rewards of that dwelling — promises of deliverance, protection, angelic covering, and victory.

Time spent in the presence of God is never wasted. It is never a wasted effort to seek Him.

I. Understanding the Secret Place

1. What Is the Secret Place?

The secret place is not primarily about a physical room, a mountain, or a building.
While it can include those — a prayer room, a quiet space, an altar — the true secret place is not defined by geography but by spiritual position.

It is the condition of your heart, the state of your spirit before God.
It is a heart-to-heart encounter between you and your Creator.
It is a place where you commune with God privately — unseen by others, yet known in heaven.

In that place, you talk to the Father, you pour out your soul, and you receive divine revelation. It is a spiritual engagement, not merely an emotional one.

The Secret Place is where your heart meets God’s heart.

2. Why It Is Called “Secret”

The term secret is not about hiding from others — it is about divine privacy and intimacy.

  • It is Private and Hidden:
The fellowship you share with God is between you and Him alone. No one else sees it or fully understands it. God meets you privately, not publicly, in that place of communion.
  • It is Invisible:
It happens in your heart and spirit, unseen by the natural eye. Others may not understand your worship or your tears, but heaven records them all.
  • It is Intimate:
The secret place is a place of closeness and vulnerability. It’s where you can cry, run, dance, or lay prostrate before the Lord. It’s the space where only you and God know what is being said and felt.
  • It is Personal:
In the secret place, God reveals His thoughts, gives you direction, and imparts understanding.
He whispers mysteries, clarifies purpose, and gives strength for the journey.

The secret place is your private chamber with God — where divine exchange happens.

II. Approaching the Secret Place

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV)

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

1. Approach with Faith

Faith is the key that unlocks the secret place.
When you come before God, you must believe that He is — that He exists, that He hears, that He responds, and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him.

To be outside of faith is to be outside of His pleasure. Faith pleases God.

2. Approach with Confidence

Come before your Father boldly, knowing that He welcomes His children into His presence. You do not come as a beggar, but as a beloved child.
Confidence in His love allows you to linger longer in His presence.

3. Approach Believing in His Presence

Just as the Ark of the Covenant symbolized God’s tangible presence among His people — the outer court, the inner court, and the Most Holy Place — we must approach with belief that God is in the Holiest Place and that we can encounter Him there.

We are not seeking an abstract or distant God. We are seeking a living, present, and personal God — a God who can be experienced.

He died on the cross, rose again, and now sits at the right hand of the Father making intercession for you.
He lives! And He still meets with those who seek Him.

4. Approach Expecting a Reward

The Scripture says that God is a Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
To experience the reward of the Secret Place, you must:

  1. Have faith.
  2. Believe that He exists.
  3. Believe that He is a Rewarder.

The Secret Place is not wasted effort — it is an eternal investment that produces lasting spiritual returns.

God is about to reveal Himself to those who dwell there. He will show you that He exists and that He is faithful to reward your diligence.

III. The Rewards of the Secret Place

Psalm 34:4 (NIV)

“I sought the LORD, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.”

Seeking the Lord is never wasted time. Every moment in His presence builds strength, intimacy, and revelation.
From the Secret Place flows power, favor, and visible blessing.

1. Power and Spiritual Authority

Jesus’ public ministry flowed out of His private communion with the Father.

Luke 6:12–19 tells us that Jesus went to the mountain and continued all night in prayer. When He came down, power went out from Him and healed them all.

The power seen in public was birthed in private prayer.

When you dwell in the Secret Place, you become bold as a lion, walking in divine authority.
No chain can bind the believer who knows how to dwell in God’s presence!

2. Divine Favor

When Esther sought the face of God through fasting and prayer, she entered her Secret Place.
Because of that, when she approached the king uninvited, she found favor in his sight.

Esther 5:1–3 records that the king extended his golden scepter toward her — granting her access and favor — saying,

“What do you wish, Queen Esther? What is your request? It shall be given to you—up to half the kingdom!”

When you spend time in the Secret Place, God causes favor to surround you like a shield. He opens doors that no man can shut.

3. Visible Blessings

Hannah is another example. She went into the temple — her Secret Place — and poured out her soul before the Lord. Eli thought she was drunk, but she was travailing in prayer.

1 Samuel 1:24–28 describes how, after God answered her prayer, she returned with her son Samuel — saying,

“For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition which I asked of Him.”

When Hannah left the temple, her countenance changed — and in due season, the Lord remembered her.

If you want something you’ve never had before, you must do something you’ve never done before.

Seek God like never before — pray like never before — worship like never before — and watch what He does!

IV. The Manifestation of Reward

Those who dwell in the Secret Place will:

  • Walk in power and authority.
  • Experience divine favor.
  • See visible, undeniable blessings in their lives.

God remains a Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Your time in His presence, your prayers, and your fasting are never in vain.

V. Prophetic Declaration

I see the Lord rewarding somebody today!
I see testimonies being birthed from time spent in the Secret Place.
Your prayers are not in vain, your fasting is not in vain, your worship is not in vain.

Your season of elevation has come.
God is granting you authority to overcome every plan of the enemy.
He is releasing favor over your life.
He is doing something new, mighty, and divine — right now — in the name of Jesus!

“He who dwells in the Secret Place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

Abide in Him — stay hidden in Him — and your reward will surely come.
